World / global city

The Global Cities Working Group of the Geography Department at Loughborough University calls them world / global city. Its purpose is to further integrate the relations between cities in its study. It provides a ranking of global cities every two or four years.

How a city can become Global

A Global City is intimately linked to its repositioning in the economic globalization.c Some owe their emergence as such to the opening of their respective countries’ economies. These cities gradually become key centers capturing most of the foreign capital.
