One of the biggest tourist attractions in Berlin is the former border between East and West Berlin – Checkpoint Charlie. The name comes simply by the letter C – because it was the checkpoint C – and in the Phonetic Alphabet C is Charlie. Checkpoint Charlie was the border between the Soviet and American zones in Berlin from 1945 – 1990.
